AppliquÉ

Applique is SEW much fun! When I was a little girl I remember going to a holiday party where my friend's mother greeted her guests in the most incredible maxi skirt I'd ever seen. I was awestruck! This floor length skirt was kelly green quilted taffeta with a colossal appliquéd red and white candy cane that rose from hem to waist and had a giant red bow just at the hip below the crook of the cane.

THIS was my first exposure to appliqué. Yeah. It was the 70's, and it seemed perfectly glamorous at the time.

So, I'm seeing appliqué returning to fashion in a big way and not the 80's puff paint bedazzled southwest bandana on a t-shirt kind of appliqué. A new, hip kind of embellishment to add graphic interest and texture to skirts, tops, jackets, totes and handbags. From the pages of the Anthropologie catalog to the coolest boutiques in town, appliqué is enjoying a renaissance.

In this class you will learn several techniques for pucker-free easy appliqué and use them to embellish an item of clothing you've brought with you. Transform a thrift store skirt, give a plain denim jacket some personality or sweeten up a plain tee. Even better: appliqué something you made yourself!

*HAND EMBROIDERY PROJECT CLASS*

Sweet Vintage Embroidery ROCKS MY WORLD! I LOVE to hand embroider tea towels and dinner napkins for friends as gifts. You can customize with their name or an inside joke catch phrase or coordinate the design with their vintage dishes or kitchen decor. How swank would it be to embroider a napkin for each of your guests at your holiday table? What about tricking out a western shirt for your brother/husband/dad/boyfriend or yourself?

This class introduces students to many traditional embroidery stitches using DMC floss, ribbon and beads. Embroidery is a beautiful and inexpensive way to embellish sweaters, linens, western shirts, skirts, handbags, pillows and quilts.
You bring an item or items to embroider--plain dinner napkins, flour sack or tea towels, a vintage/contemporary garment, designs you want to transfer and I show you how to transfer the patterns and get to stitchin'! LOVE Jenny Hart's books and embroidery patterns

Embroidery = LoveNo previous sewing skills required. Students bring materials to practice stitches in sampler form. You can view our Hand Embroidery Flickr set to see class samples and students' creations!
